Cayetana, Extremadura

Cayetana, Extremadura
Cayetana is the brainchild of Luis Merino, who launched the project to champion and celebrate the rare, indigenous grape variety Cayetana.
The vines, over 50 years old, are located in the Tierra de Barros subzone of Extremadura, in southwestern Spain, near the Portuguese border. The soil is loam clay with a high percentage of limestone. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by an additional month of lees contact.
Thirty percent of the blend is barrel fermented, resulting in a wine that is intense and rounded, with a perfect balance of weight and freshness.
